This agreement represents years of dialogue, collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership. It acknowledges the unique role tribes play within Michigan’s cannabis landscape while creating a framework that allows tribal operators to participate more fully in the state’s regulated system. For the Pokagon Band, it’s a meaningful step toward expanded economic opportunity and long-term sustainability within the cannabis industry.
Through the compact, our tribal cannabis business can now engage directly in Michigan’s licensed wholesale market, transport products, and integrate into the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system. These changes bring greater consistency, transparency, and operational clarity. For Rolling Embers, this means increased flexibility in how we operate, as well as new opportunities to collaborate with licensed partners across the state—strengthening supply chains and supporting a more connected cannabis ecosystem.
What this agreement does not mean is any change to our commitment to caregivers. We want to be very clear: Rolling Embers is not getting rid of caregivers, and we will continue to support them as an essential part of our community. Caregivers have played a critical role in shaping Michigan’s cannabis industry, especially during its early years. Their relationships, experience, and dedication have helped establish access, education, and trust across the state—and those contributions remain deeply valued at Rolling Embers.
This compact expands options; it does not replace the people who helped build this industry. We believe there is room for multiple pathways within Michigan’s cannabis market, and caregivers continue to be an important part of that landscape. Our goal is to move forward in a way that respects those foundations while embracing responsible growth within a regulated framework.
